Philosophy of Change
Telos believes in helping young men make internally-based changes that lead to true happiness and satisfaction in life. This means that we avoid taking an approach based on a system of punishments and rewards, which encourages compliance but not meaningful change.

Telos is a relationship-based program. We believe that meaningful, lasting change is possible when one human being makes a positive connection with another through the processes of inspiration, modeling, invitation, and dialogue.

The Telos change process is built on the foundation of five cornerstones: Love, Family, Spirituality, Principled-living, and Insightful Choices.
Cornerstones of Change
LOVE: We believe all healthy people require love.  The ability to give and receive love is as important as food, water, and air.  At Telos we strive to teach the true meaning of love for self and others.

THE FAMILY: We believe the family is the most important unit of society.  Families provide support and guidance that enable young people to find stability and independence in the world.  At Telos, we seek to understand and treat each person within the context of the family.  We believe change is not just an individual process; family growth is connected to individual healing.

SPIRITUALITY: We believe spirituality is a person’s ability to connect to a purpose greater than oneself.  It allows one to understand and live principles of goodness. It also allows the mind and spirit to control physical and emotional impulses. Spirituality is an essential component in the development of individual worth and moral reasoning.

PRINCIPLED LIVING: We believe specific, absolute truths or principles support health and happiness.  Choosing to live one’s life according to these principles brings peace and healing.  Telos strives to help all people learn and implement healthy principles.

INSIGHTFUL CHOICES: We believe all people have the ability to choose how they view their world. At Telos we promote the development of personal insight which enables us to take positive control of our lives.  As we come to understand our internal reactions, we are better able to make choices that result in lasting peace and happiness. Viktor Frankl, a holocaust survivor, said “Everything can be taken from a man but …the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude.”
